Extreme couponing has easily become one of the most talked about television shows in the country. It has changed the way that people have shopped, sparked an interest in coupon use and brought up questions about your own spending habits – and the things that you pay full price for on a regular basis.
Learning the tricks and tips to becoming an extreme couponer however, isn’t as easy as it might sound. It takes time and effort tolearn the store policies and collect the coupons, learn the sales cycles and prices – finally achieving the goal of getting products for very little or free while shopping.
Here are four steps that regular people can use to hone
their extreme couponing skills:
Collect the Coupons
In order to use the coupons to get the hottest prices for the sales, the coupons must be part of the coupon collection. Collect the coupons from newspaper inserts that can be found in the Sunday paper, coupons that can be picked up off of the shelves of local stores and coupons that can be printed from the internet. Try to get multiples of coupons for products or brands that you are going to use regularly to allow yourself to buy multiples of these items and avoid paying full price in the future.
Organize the Coupons
Organizing the coupons is essential. In order to find the coupons to match with the right sale the coupons must be organized. This doesn’t mean that you have to lug around a ten pound couponbinder, but it does mean that you are going to have to use envelopes or some sort of coupon organizer wallet for keeping similar products or brands together, ensuring that the coupons can be found when needed, and multiple coupons are stored together.
Learn the Sales Cycles
Watch the prices and learn the sale cycles for the items that you buy for the home. Find the lowest price and when the lowest price of the sale cycle hits and you have a coupon, this will often drastically reduce the price of the product or even make the product free. Learning to watch the sales cycles can be a great way to reduce the cost of everything from pantry items, convenience foods and household and cleaning items that are purchased.
Buy More than One
Buying more than one of an item when it is drastically reduced in price allows you to avoid paying full price in the future. Buying more than one is required in order to become an extreme couponer, with most people who follow these shopping methods buying at least a dozen items.
