How To Bring
The Western Look To Your Decor

by Scarlett Lovitt
(Houston, Texas, USA)

The western look is popular in many homes and for several reasons. It is an era in the past that represented open trails, horses, and a natural way of life.

Today, you can get that look in your decor with a few simple and easy tips that don’t cost you a lot of money. If you want to create a western decor, here are some helpful hints and tips.

Furniture

You want your furniture to look as natural as possible. To do that you need log furniture and pieces of twigs to be used for curtain rods and more.

Your furniture should be simple and traditional. Cowboys didn’t spend a lot of time sitting back in the old west days so they didn’t need fancy furniture in their sitting room.

If you want the western look in the bedroom, keep the furniture simple. A simple headboard and a dresser are simple enough. If you are decorating a little boy’s room, place a wood table and two wood chairs or a wood desk in the room.

Place leather rugs down on the floor at the bed and use braided rugs in the play area of the room. For an adult western style room, you can use leather rugs on each side of the bed.

Color

The color of a western design consists of gray, brown, and black. You can accent these colors with cream, navy, forest green, terra cotta, red, or gray. Red and black are popular western colors like what you would see in a bandana.

Decor

There are so many ways that you can incorporate the western look on your walls. This includes motifs that are shaped like a cowboy, cattle, moose, bear, fishing, and deer. You can also choose decor that features oak trees, pine trees, pinecones, lakes, wildflowers, grass, riding horses, and more.

Fabric

There are many different types of fabric to choose from when it comes to the western design. You can choose denim, saddle blankets, leather, suede, wool, matt woven, and fur.

Chenille and tapestry is also popular with the western style. You can incorporate these colors and styles in accessories like lampshades, throw pillows, and curtains.

Fireplace

You will need a fireplace in the home in order to dress up the look. The metalwork screens are perfect for the western decor. Two hurricane lamps or candle shades will look great sitting on the mantle along with a simple statue of a cowboy riding his horse.

Lighting

The most popular lighting with the western decor is the antler chandelier. You can also use other lighting fixtures as long as they are made with metal.

Iron is very popular in the western decor. Although it is hard to get sometimes, you may find it in a garage sale or flea market. You can also look for vintage items like saddlebags, spurs, and old rusted metal pails.

Getting a western look can be fun to do and you will love the effort you put into this look!.
