I couldn’t agree with you more Kevin. As a Diy’er and a professionalinterior decorator I can’t stress enough how important it is to start with a plan!.
I have dealt with so many clients who call me after they purchasefurniture that is too big for the room and expect me to make it work for the space.
It saves so much time and money to get some graph paper (count each box as 1 foot) and measure out the room. I like to make cut outs for furniture using rectangles, squares and circles so I can figure out all the different room arrangement options just by moving the cut outs.
I provide more about this on my site as well as a step by step plan to decorating a space…
It also helps if they know their style or have an idea of the overall look they want to achieve. I find that many of my clients call me because they feel they haven’t any idea as to what their style is.
I always recommend and (do so myself)that they purchase some decor magazines and cut out all the decorating pages that they like. After 4 or 5 magazines and several pages they will notice a pattern in what they have and then they’ll know what they like and want for their space.
I also suggest they visit my site and take the Style Quiz…
