Save Money on Landscape Plants

If you want to save money on landscape plants, here are three ways to get started.

Plant vegetables.

Plant vegetable seeds in your flower garden. Seeds cost much less than plants. Vegetables help you save money on landscape plants and on food.

Choose attractive vegetable varieties that also mix well with flowers:

  • Peppers, with their attractive leaves and colorful issue as they ripen, look nice among flowers.
  • Pumpkins and bushy-plant squashes look great planted in the same way you would plant an island of flowers. Squashes and pumpkins flower, so they are pretty when they bloom, and their leaves grow big and beautiful.
  • Tomatoes make great accent plants on the edges of flower gardens.
  • Peas can be set up to grow on small edge fences. Their curly vines are appealing, and they are among the least expensive vegetables.

Plant herbs for ground cover.

Instead of buying landscape plants designed for ground cover, invest in an herb garden. Herbs grow fast, and you can also use them for cooking, saving you money at the grocery store. Buy seeds for the herbs you commonly use in your cooking: Parsley, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and sage are all attractive plants. They grow close to the ground, and can grow thickly, creating ideal ground cover. Chives and green onions can be planted behind for an even more ornamental look.

Use container gardens.

Container gardens are among the more inexpensive landscaping ideas. Container gardening requires less maintenance than conventional flowerbeds and gardens because there is less amendment to the soil and fewer weed problems. You also avoid the costs of preparing an area for planting.

You can buy potting soil on sale (end of the season is a great time to buy) and use almost anything for containers, including washtubs, tin cans, and milk cartons with the tops cut off. After arranging your plants in their containers, you can set them in your yard. For lots more information about container gardening just click the link!.

Using a little creativity, you can save money on landscape plants while creating an attractive landscape.
