Large Room In A Little Space

Less is more........in small spaces!

Less is more........in small spaces!

Sometimes people choose smaller spaces because that is all they need or they want while others choose small spaces because that is all they can afford.

Small spaces can include an apartment, dorm, or your parents’ basement. If you are tired of the little spaces that you have it’s time to create a larger space without knocking down the wall to get it.

Use these tips to help you create a feeling of being in a larger room instead of feeling cramped and small.

Clutter:

Almost everyone has it but what do you do with it? Go through everything and toss what you don’t need or use and compact what you do have to keep. You can place boxes under end tables or in closets.

The main thing to do here is to get everything out of sight. When you look in the room you should see only the necessary furniture for that room and keep the accessories simple; a lamp, a candle, and a book on the table. If you add too many accessories, again, you will have a cluttered look.

Place the furniture up against the wall. You want to not only have a walkway but you want to make sure that the floor is open. This will help the room feel less small.

Instead of buying big bulky or overstuffed furniture, consider buying furniture that shows you more flooring, for example, an ottoman or a chair with no arms.

Color:

Soft colors are better. Sky blue and white, lavender and white are good choices in finding colors that will help create an open room. This will make your room feel and look larger than it does right now.

For window treatments, let all the light you can get coming in. This may take a little bit of work but you can actually make your own curtains and design them exactly how you want them.

Within a few minutes, you can have your own pair of curtains that offer both light and privacy when you need them. If you have blinds on your windows, consider taking down the blinds and leaving the window completely open.

Floors:

You want to complete your look with a nice welcoming floor. You don’t have to spend every waking hour scrubbing your floor to keep them clean and neat, you simply need to find the right rug to put down.

Contemporary rugs look great on any floor but it also allows you to get that sophisticated look you have been looking for.

Modern rugs are available online so you can look before you buy. These rugs give you everything you need; size that fits, a shape that is perfect, the color you like, and a price that you can afford.

It also means a lot if you can find one that also color coordinates with everything else you have in your house. Leave as much space open as possible and use area rugs to help you create imaginary dividers.
