Laying Sod....How Dumb Can One Person Get!

by Jim
(Hixson, TN, USA)

Research,research,research

I just paid $3000+ to have a professional (?) landscaper re-sod my back yard. ONLY after he started did I learn that he does not add fertilizer such as Starter nor lime if the soil needs it!.

In fact he didn't even do a soil test. Additionally he does not roll the sod, says it compresses the roots or some such. Funny, every thing I have read today says roll and sometimes even before and after.

I also got the same story about butting the sod pieces up tight, "oh don't worry they will grow in.". After they were finished, I walked the yard and found some places with 1 - 2 inch separation.

My tip, there is no such thing as a professional unless you do your homework first, read, read, read and remember to ask just what the person is going to do from start to finish. If he leaves out a step (red flag)and think twice before continuing!.

Right now I have a yard that is rougher than when they started and have plenty of work to do to fill the gaps and put down starter fertilizer and lime which I know my soil needs.

"The job is only done right if the Boss checks and don't forget for a minute that YOU ARE the BOSS!".
