Making Time For Yourself

- Time Management Techniques

Making Time For Yourself - Time Management Techniques Making Time For Yourself....not getting enough hours to get it all done? Imagine this: it’s Monday and you’re loaded with good intentions for the day. You plan to blast through your inbox, hit the gym, and meet friends at the end of the day.

But soon, you realize that your brilliant plan has begun to derail. You experience unexpected glitches all throughout the day until the hours just pass you by without even realizing it. You’ve all been there…but you don’t have to stay in that predicament.

Time management can be crucial to your happiness. Think of organizing your time much like organizing your closet. A closet has limited space, and the way you arrange your clothes affects how many you can fit inside.

Similarly, there are only enough hours in the day to do so much, but the better you organize your time, the more you can squeeze in. There are actually ways to stop the clock.

First, it helps to try new stuff. Doing novel things puts time to a slow motion. Because unfamiliar situations require more concentration, you’re conscious of what you’re doing at each moment.

Try to engage your senses as well. Notice the sounds and sights around you. Savor the taste, smell, and feel of your food. Tuning in to your environment will increase awareness and draw out every experience.

Make lots of plans too. Meet a friend for lunch, go out and watch a movie, or basically do whatever it is you want so that the day feels like you’ve done a ton.

Making Time For Yourself....each day, pinpoint your most important work-related task and your top priority personal activity. Then, plan everything else around those two things. It helps to use your body clock as well. Find out what your most alert moments are and do tasks that require deep thinking at those times.

Take care of mindless chores like filing or paying bills when you’re losing steam. People usually get a second energy burst in the evenings, so use that time to work out, socialize, or focus on a personal project. Take charge of your mornings.

Making Time For Yourself....most people spend the first two hours of each workday warming up. Instead, it helps to give yourself 30 minutes to have breakfast, check your favorite blogs, and then get going. Or better yet, show up for work half an hour earlier than anyone else. You’ll get three times as much done when you’re free of interruptions.

You also need to learn to draw out distractions. Whenever a random thought comes into your head, jot it down so it won’t be mental clutter. Get rid of visual mess as well. Piles stacked in your drawer draws your attention away from what you’re doing. So, stash stuff where you can’t see it, even just in a drawer or under your desk.

When you’re typing out a really important document, go invincible on your programs so that friends don’t always interrupt you to ask how you are. Being invincible allows you to see who you can get in touch with when you need them, and at the same time, have that time to finish what you need to do.

As Helene Malmsio from Time Management in the Workplace website says “Ensure that you have a clear idea of what you need to accomplish in your working day and be realistic! You will do yourself no favours by trying to complete a week’s worth of work in one day. All you will accomplish if you try this technique is a big ball of stress in your stomach and a head ache to go with it.”

Making Time For Yourself....learning time management in the workplace is actually not that difficult. It may take time but once you’ve mastered the necessary skills, you will feel less pressured and be able to work better.
