Working from home gives you more flexibility. When you are the boss of your own agenda, you are always free to pick up the kids when school is out. And when you choose to work at something that you are enthusiastic about, you will be good at it because you will put in the extra effort. Nothing is stopping you from giving it a go. But of course not all professions lend themselves to working from home, so which jobs are the most suitable?
Freelance Copywriter or Journalist
If you are blessed with a flowing pen, you can start work as afreelance copywriter or journalist. Newspapers and (online) magazines often accept contributions by freelancers to make up the large amount of information they need to publish on a daily basis. You could also write for television programs, or take a shot at writing advertising copy. The key to steady work is to build up a solid network of contacts
Do you have an artistic ability and vision? Then maybe interior design is something that you might consider. You will be planning the interior decoration of houses or arranging commercial spaces like offices, hotels, or restaurants. Your skill in combining colors and materials to create a mood makes you an asset to any serious business.
Maybe you are harboring a talent for drawing. So why not make illustrations for books, greeting cards, advertisements, or product packaging? If your drawing talent is more of a technical nature, you can make technical drawings and diagrams for manuals. If you are good at what you do, you will be able to build up a profitable business working from home.
Do people mistake you for one of the natives when you go on holiday? If you have a head for language and a way with words, then you can become a freelance translator. There is no shortage of information that needs translating: websites, travel guides, novels, advertisements, legal documents, and scientific or technical texts.
Do you have a passion for fashion? Start a career as a fashion stylist, and help other people to look their best. Whether you give advice on clothing, make-up, the right colors to wear, or even body language and etiquette, your skills are in high demand with businesses and individuals alike.
If, however, you love music, than you could work as a music teacher. You can choose to teach students in your own home, or you might prefer to go on location to the students’ homes. You don’t need much equipment, except your musical knowledge and the talent to transfer that knowledge to the student. Even bands and amateur orchestras hire private tutors nowadays
