As people choose to dine in rather than dine out, they are looking for kitchen appliances which can help make the adjustment easier.
Here are some ideas on how you can create an even better food experience right from your own kitchen.
Start Your own Garden
Before there were super markets on every corner thus increasing the convenient lifestyle we all have grown accustomed to, most families which had a yard grew much of their own vegetables at home. Today, even though there are more markets than we can imagine, people who never thought they ever needed a green thumb are choosing to dig in and reap the rewards of gardening.
By growing your own food you have complete control over the quality of the soil, fertilizer and seeds which are used. You can have your own 100% natural or organic garden and that will save you lots of money when compared to purchasing organic vegetables at the store.
Let’s All Scream for Ice Cream (or Gelato!)
You don’t have to be a kid to love ice-cream! However, taking the family out on a hot summer day to buy ice cream cones is no cheap outing. However, learning to make your own ice cream or gelato from home not only saves money, but is a fun experience for kids and parents. Brands from Cuisinart to KitchenAid to Delonghi have all come out with their own machines to create this fun American treat.
Each brand has their own distinct features, for example Cuisinart focuses on producing straight American ice cream, however for those who enjoy the Italian style ice cream called gelato, Delonghi came out with a gelato machine that fits the bill.
To use these machines, the rules are pretty much the same – add in the ingredients and let the machine do the blending and mixing. Some machines will chill the mixture until it is frozen, while others require you to transfer the mixture to your freezer to finalize the end product.
Creating your own gelato or ice cream at home also allows you to customize flavors by adding your own ingredients you and your kids enjoy. Don’t forget to create custom individual batches and let your kids come up with fun names for each one.
Grind Your Own Meat at Home
Albeit electric meat grinders, or manual ones like our parents used to use, learning to grind your own meat at home rather than relying on a butcher works in your favor a few ways. First, you can purchase large cuts of quality meat in bulk which saves money in the long run; secondly, by grinding the meat yourself, you have control over the quality of the meat used. For example, you can purchase a nice sirloin which is on sale, grind it and freeze it in 1/4 lb portions. When craving for a hamburger, you not only have the meat already available – but it is of better quality than those purchased from any fast food joint.
When times get tough, eating out or buying prepackaged foods are often the first expenses we say good bye to, however this doesn’t mean you have to cut back on eating good quality food. With a bit of time invested along with some creativity, you can see the benefits of preparing and making your own foods and desserts at home.
