Tired Of The Same Old Look?

by Sacha Megan
(Houston,Texas, USA)

Are you tired of the same old view greeting you every day when you walk in the door of your home or office? One of the easiest, least expensive things you can do to add interest to your home or office décor is to use rugs to draw attention to special areas and to change the appearance of any room.

There are many advantages to using an area rug to highlight certain areas within your space. Do you hate to paint? Are you too busy to take on a whole redecoration project? Is your budget limited to where you are unable to replace the entire floor surface of a “problem room”? With a little effort and research you can find a beautiful rug within your budget that will be a complement to your existing space.

One of the most convenient, time-saving (not to mention money saving) methods for finding suitable floor coverings like wood flooring, tile flooring and carpet is to shop online. You will find a plethora of online stores that offer every sort of rug imaginable in every budget range. If you are shopping for a genuine hand woven wool rug you can expect to pay from $100-$7,000 (even more for antique Oriental rugs).

An Oriental or Persian rug will last for a very long time if cared for properly. The colors of these rugs are spectacular! They come in a tremendous array of patterns and colors; anyone can find a Persian or Oriental rug to suit them.

For those on a more restricted budget there are many wonderful options. If you prefer a furry look to your floor covering, a faux fur rug may be just the perfect selection for you. Faux sheepskin is extremely soft, as are faux bear and faux zebra. Faux fur ranges from the extremely exotic (imitation flokati, camel and leopard hide) to the more mundane (faux rabbit for instance). For household members with sensitivities, faux floor coverings have the distinct advantage of generally being hypoallergenic and washable.

A rug is like icing on a cake; a perfectly chosen rug adds a touch of class to otherwise drab spaces.

When you are buying a rug you must take into consideration what you are trying to accomplish with your purchase. Do you simply want something to wipe dirty feet on or are you looking for an elegant rug to place under the dining table? Are you looking for a washable rug or are you looking for a rug made of wool or silk that will need special care? What are the colors in the room where the rug will be placed? Will there be much light in the room where the rug will be placed? What type is the existing floor surface?.

Will the rug need to have a non-skid backing? If the rug is for your office will your choice be considered tasteful? In the long run, you need to consider your decorating goal and then set about finding the perfect rug to fill that need.
